The lowest level of OM—Orgasmic Meditation is a clear mind that doesn’t grab on to any particular thought. Thoughts move through just as debris moves in a river. Feelings and sensations move through us as rhythms but remain dynamic. We are able to maintain steady attention on the point of connection between the finger and the clitoris. We are also able to maintain attention on the stroke without our attention moving toward the past or future.
At the level of physicality, as if a light has been switched on inside the body, the rhythms play through it. When the lighting turns up, our physical experience becomes more buoyant; a light or warmth emanates from within, with a feeling of expansiveness. And when the lighting turns down, a charged darkness goes inward with a deep, calming density and a sense of being enveloped.
This internal lighting changes as if a skilled hand is moving a dimmer switch; the shift is seamless. Our body becomes so fully inhabited, saturated with the experience. We can still sense the physical, but at a much more refined level: we sense the groove of the fingertip or the smallest bump on the clitoris.
The second level of Orgasmic Meditation has an openness and dynamism that moves thoughts through us without force. Feelings and sensations become palpable, as if our nervous system is composed of keys and our sensations are playing them. We experience a full, round beauty to all sensation. Nothing occurs as discordant.
The key to this level is that the transition from one sensation to the next is experienced with a throughline of joy. Every note of sensation is played through to the end with no holding on as one sensation transitions to the next. Every sensation is welcomed as refreshing and necessary. Feeling tones play through our sensations, adding richness, though these feelings are not personalized in any way. What could be called sadness is experienced as a dark, rich timbre. What could be called anger is a bright electricity. What could be called lust is a dark, warm, orange, pulling sensation.
With no static self for the sensation to adhere to, the notion of coming back to that kind of static place is unattractive. The only truth that exists is a raw, pure sensation that can be felt by feeding the static self into it—not the other way around. Simultaneously, our body experiences greater concentration and saturation, as if we were inside our own cells.
Level three of Orgasmic Meditation is a radiation of clarifying light, alternating with an absorbing darkness. The stroker and the strokee exist inside of these until this alternation occurs, and the OM is no longer about “me” and “my partner,” as if the OM is breathing us. All movement and stillness happens through us, and we are liberated together into this place. We execute nothing personally.
A new relationship with our body emerges, where we are so inside our body it becomes everything—an almost unbearable feeling of something akin to gratitude and a saturation so concentrated, like we are within the heartbeat of life, with a sense of a “coming out of it.” As if we have been inside the truth of how things are and where they operate from. With this new awareness, the world of appearances looks radically different. The mind has now been clarified and nourished. What looked stimulating or pleasurable before seems pale compared to this simple, rich clarity.
What used to bring us the greatest pleasure seems empty compared to what we know is possible. We do not make ourselves stop our previous pursuits; they just fall away because they are dissatisfying. Level three is marked by the infinite nature of “here” with no desire to go anywhere else. We need no nirvana, vision, or height to ascend. The everything of this moment ends all searching.
