Ellen Huet’s 2018 Bloomberg Businessweek article on OneTaste made further assertions about the primary named subject, a woman named Michal. Huet reported, “OneTaste quickly swallowed Michal’s life. She quit her teaching job, gave her dog to her parents, and moved into a crowded OM house in Brooklyn to sell OneTaste classes.”
The following is an excerpt from a witness statement from one of Michal’s friends, a OneTaste participant who was also a school teacher and who lived in the Brooklyn OM house. She relates that her fellow housemates questioned Michal about whether it was advisable that she take such a big step — giving up her apartment and moving into an OM house as she was so new to the practice and the community. Michal, according to her friend’s account, insisted that this was something she wanted to do right away.
Michal also saw her family often while being involved with OneTaste. Here is an excerpt from a witness statement from Michal’s friend and some text messages from Michal about seeing her family:
Michal’s decision to move into an OM house was from her own enthusiastic desire and volition and not coerced or encouraged by OneTaste. Throughout her involvement with OneTaste, she maintained contact with her family, and fellow OneTaste participants and staff openly supported and encouraged her relationships with her family.
