The tumescent mind lives for outcomes. It is always trying to outwit reality. Locked into a world of if/then, it scrambles to align itself with perceived actions it imagines would carry us to a desired end. The truth is, we have no idea whether that desired end will be desirable once we get there. The future is opaque, and we sacrifice the process for an always uncertain outcome. We are blind to our myopia. We fantasize that if we leave our lives to enter an imagined future, then finally we will know best how to find satisfaction.
In truth, only by being fully in our lives now can that occur. It escapes us totally that we could simply forego the projection, start right here, and enter our lives exactly as they are. However, this would require an admission that the tumescent mind—with its hot-air importance—rejects.
For all its effort, the tumescent mind always engages in—at best—a zero-sum game. Its efforts sometimes yield results, but they also cause a lot of problems in the process, leaving us exhausted from the work with mediocre outcomes. Were we to remain in our center and do nothing, we might allow ourselves in humility to be moved. The tumescent mind is working against itself in a system filled with exhaust.
The Erotic mind is not about doing nothing; it is about doing everything that needs to be done, but nothing extra.
